Kid Snacks

  • Apple and Peanut Butter – spread nut butter between 2 thin slices to make “sandwiches”. [can substitute any nut butter, ie. Almond Butter]
  • Fruit and Cheese Kabobs ( especially cheddar or Havarti with pineapple, grapes, apples and pears).
  • Cinnamon Stars (whole grain bread cut into star shape with cutter, spread with cream cheese and sprinkled with cinnamon).
  • Ants on a Log – Celery wedges spread with cream cheese or nut butter, dotted with raisins
  • Oatmeal and Fruit (especially Steel Cut Irish Oats – can be soaked overnight ahead of time and microwaved) with chopped nuts and fruit (i.e. apple and cinnamon, banana and peanut butter).
  • Mini Burrito with fat-free refried beans, cheese, tomato and lettuce.
  • Mini Corn Tortilla, stuffed with low fat cheddar or jack and topped with salsa.
  • Mini Egg Salad or Tuna Salad Stuffed Pitas.  The tuna salad version can be made in bulk and frozen.
  • Red Pepper Bowls with Hummus or Dip (slice off top of pepper, put hummus or dip in bottom and fill with veggie sticks – more peppers, celery, carrots, etc.).
  • Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwich on a whole grain English Muffin.
  • Pigs in Blankets – split nitrite-free hotdog, fill with 1/2 a string cheese, wrap in whole grain tortilla.  Bake and cut in chunks serve with mustard.
  • Water Chestnuts Wrapped in Turkey Bacon – 1/2 slice each wrapped around whole water chestnuts, secure with toothpick and bake.
  • Cup of Turkey Chili with some shredded cheese or sour cream.
  • Stuffed Potato Skins with broccoli and cheese, leftover BBQ Chicken, etc.
  • Stuffed Baked Potato – stuff a small whole baked potato (can microwave if no leftovers available) with either sour cream and salsa or low fat cheddar and salsa.
  • Ricotta Cheese and Granny Smith Pita Pockets – mini pitas stuffed with ricotta cheese, apple slices and a dash of cinnamon.  Also works with cottage cheese.
  • Pseudo Raspberry Danish – Kavli flatbreads with a smear of raspberry jam and topped with cottage cheese.
