A calorie is not just a calorie to me when…the food I eat at 7 am is telling me to look for snacks at 10 am.  This food actually makes me hungry both sooner and later, potentially prompting me to strip mine my kitchen at 11 pm.  Who knew that the two hunger incidences (separated by 16 hours) could be related?  The lack of protein and fat at breakfast induces the later release of a chemical called Neuropeptide Y that tells my body that I am hungry and to look for calorically concentrated foods.

Case in point:  Corn flakes with skim milk and fruit for breakfast.  Breakfast of Champions, right?  Oh wait a minute, that was Wheaties, but the point is the same. Gone from your stomach in less than an hour, and the real typical average serving size of 2-3 cups (2.5 times the serving size on the box) with a cup of skim milk and a banana is equivalent to about 30 tsp of sugar to your body.
