If I can assess and predict the expenditure, then if I can’t stop myself from doing it, the at least I can bank for it.  I had been unable or unwilling to break my night snacking habit for years, but have never worn those calories because I (logically) reserved about 300 calories for this time of the day.  Not a solution, but the best I could do at the time, and the lesser of the evils, I thought.  Records allow me to plan my overspending menu so I don’t eat randomly.  I can go for the things that are really worth it to me (eggplant parm) and not waste calories on things that are not (ziti) and perhaps stay on track because I know I can make it work.  I don’t have to “break my diet” to be able to have some fun.
