Roadblock:  I can stay committed to exercise if…I am not tired or stressed.  Of course, it is when I am tired or stressed that it is of the most benefit, ironically.  Also helps me not eat over those emotions.  And besides, when would I not be?

Safe detour:  Remind myself of the above.  Practice not bailing and experience the physiological relief.  Ralph actually heard himself saying to himself the other day, “This has been such a horrendous day, I just have to get to the gym to try to save it!”  Wow.  If you knew him you would know what a turnaround that is for him.  Can you imagine what kind of a difference (in lots of ways, not just weight) exercising rather than eating over stress could make over twenty years?  If he burned 300 calories instead of eating 300 calories (a conservative example as any stress eater knows) on a stressful day even once a week, that would make a 10 lb. difference over the course of a year.  As a daily choice it would mean 60 lbs.
