Strategy:  Peruse the buffet line without a plate in my hand first.  Take a plate of salad or veggies alone, eat it first, and then go back – after I have taken the edge off.

Why:   Unlike my sister who is put off by all the food (how could that possibly feel?!!), buffets trigger my inner animal.  If I get an idea of what is there and then go sit and calm down before I get on line, I can almost be reasonable.  All the really quality items are later in the line anyway, hopefully (for the restaurant) after you have already filled your plate with cheaper items.  One of my clients approaches buffets like they are a menu and picks one item for each course.  Clever idea, right?  Works for her.
